Sara Arno is a New York native lens based artist and the founder of SoMad, a femme and queer led independent art space that fosters creative experimentation as a platform, production house, and gallery. SoMad's goal is to empower artists through togetherness, practice, and collaboration.

Sara’s art practice is rooted in Rhinebeck, NY where she grew up and where she has been conducting a long term time lapse project since 2018. This body of work inspires her to be connected to the natural world while living mostly in the city.

Sara is on the board of Upstate Films, an art house cinema that connects the Hudson Valley through cinematic experiences that build empathy and appreciation for communities and the planet; and The New York Restoration Project (NYRP) whose mission is to create a greener, more resilient city for all by working with communities to renovate gardens, restore parks, plant trees, and promote urban agriculture.

Sara graduated from the SVA with an MFA in Photo, Video and Related Media (2019) and from Middlebury College with a degree in Environmental Studies and Human Ecology (2014.5). She attended The National Outdoor Leadership Shool to Wyoming and Australia, and also Natuical Archaeology Field School at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

She is passionate about plants, cooking, making music, community, and spending time outdoors.
